Professional Judgment, Accountability and AI in Vocational Rehabilitation Practice
Artificial intelligence is already changing how professionals research, draft, summarize, communicate, and organize information. For vocational rehabilitation professionals, the central question is not simply whether AI can perform a task. It is whether its use is ethical, appropriate, and defensible within professional practice.
This practical, discussion-based webinar examines AI use through the VRAC Code of Ethics, with particular attention to professional accountability, boundaries of competence, informed consent and transparency, client trust, and ethical decision-making. Participants will explore the distinction between low-risk administrative support and AI uses that may affect client information, reports, assessments, recommendations, return-to-work planning, employability conclusions, or other high-impact professional decisions.
Using realistic vocational rehabilitation scenarios, participants will practice applying professional judgment to common questions: Can I use AI to draft a client letter? Can I summarize case material? Can AI help identify transferable skills or potential occupations? When might client disclosure, consent, organizational approval, privacy review, or additional consultation be needed?
The session is designed for VRAC members working in organizational settings, independent practice, disability management, insurer-related work, and other vocational rehabilitation contexts. It recognizes that AI does not take on professional responsibility: the practitioner remains accountable for the information they use, the decisions they make, and the impact on the client.
